| AMA
Pro Racing statement regarding Mat Mladin disqualification and
appeal process |
Daytona
Beach, Fla.--AMA Pro Racing has issued the following statement from
Roy Janson, AMA Pro Racing vice president of competition, regarding
the disqualification of Mat Mladin, riding the No. 6 Suzuki, from
the Superbike races at Virginia International Raceway on August
16-17, 2008, and the denial of the subsequent appeal of that
disqualification:
The technical rules for AMA Superbike events were developed to
create a competition environment that utilizes modified production
machines that are available to all competitors with replacement
parts that are available through a national distribution network of
franchised dealers. While the AMA Superbike rules allow for some
aftermarket items to be used in Superbike competition, such as front
and rear suspension units, some parts are explicitly required to be
used in their stock/production form to help to control the costs of
competing in this class and to ensure that key competition
components are available equally to all competitors.

| COOLBETH
WINS TO CLINCH THIRD AMA GRAND NATIONAL TITLE |
 |
MONTICELLO N.Y. - Harley-Davidson Screamin'
Eagle factory rider Kenny Coolbeth clinched his third consecutive
AMA Grand National Twins championship with a win on the half-mile
track at Monticello Raceway. Coolbeth passed Moroney's
Harley-Davidson/Screamin' Eagle rider Bryan Smith on lap 17 of the
25-lap main and led by 2.054-seconds at the finish line to win his
sixth race of the season. Because his closest rival for the series
title, Latus Harley-Davidson/Screamin' Eagle rider Joe Kopp, failed
to qualify for the main, Coolbeth's win gives him an insurmountable
points lead with two races left on the schedule.
"We certainly didn't come to Monticello
expecting to win the championship," said Coolbeth.
"Winning the title was our goal when we opened the season in
May and it feels great to be able to wrap it up early. I'm really
happy for the Screamin' Eagle Harley-Davidson factory team. They
really work hard for me, listen to me and are great people to race
with. I could not have won these championships without that
support."

2008 AMA Formula Xtreme title |
 |
Bridesmaid no
more, Jake Zemke won the 2008 AMA Formula Xtreme championship in an
epic race at Road Atlanta.
Zemke's successful season wrapped with his last-lap dogfight for the
win with Erion Honda teammate, Josh Hayes. In a final-corner
nail-biter, Zemke decided to back off rather than risk a pass that
could have put them both off the track.
Showing good sense and true grit, Zemke, from Paso Robles,
California, only had to stay in front of Steve Rapp--who finished
more than seven seconds arrears in fourth place--to clinch his first
AMA Pro Racing series title after nine of 10 rounds one race early.
