Atomic Racing’s Paul Carpenter Looking to Clinch U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company Top Privateer Award
After  15 rounds of Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, Honda’s Paul Carpenter, of Ithaca, N.Y., leads the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company Pro Privateer Challenge (USSTC) 136-109 over Honda’s Heath Voss, of Mico, Texas.  The U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company Pro Privateer Challenge awards a total of $50,000 to the top three finishing privateers in AMA Supercross class racing.

Michael Lichter's Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Art Exhibition Honors the Late Johnny Chop
STURGIS, S.D. --April 24, 2008--  Thunder Road will once again be home to the annual Custom Motorcycle Art Exhibition during Sturgis Bike Week 2008.  Under the direction of Michael Lichter, and with the blessing of the late Johnny Chop's family, this year's exhibition, titled "Stay Gold," is being held to honor Johnny Chop and will feature builders who approach their work with the same passion that Johnny demonstrated in each bike he built throughout his short life. This passion radiated from Johnny's being and was enthusiastically expressed on his knuckles, which were tattooed with the eight letters - S-T-A-Y-G-O-L-D - that became the exhibition's namesake.

Robertino Pietri Statement Regarding Barber Motorsports Park Crash
In Superbike qualifying at Barber Motorsports Park last Saturday, Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki's Robertino Pietri was involved in a collision with Roger Hayden of the factory Monster Energy Kawasaki team. Pietri, the 2006 FMV Venezuelan National Superbike Champion and the 2006 FIM Latin American Superbike Champion, collided with Hayden as the two were both working through slower riders and both Pietri and Hayden crashed. Hayden suffered significant injuries in the fall. Pietri suffered bruising and an arm injury but was able to race in Superstock on Sunday.

Even though he swapped out his long-time competition number for the #6 plate this season, his old number still carries significance for Rockstar Makita Yoshimura Suzuki’s Mat Mladin, as he upped his career AMA Superbike wins record to 66 on Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park.

His chief rival, reigning two-time series champ Ben Spies, didn’t open the door by crashing out of contention as he did on Saturday, but Mladin still managed to turn the race into a lopsided affair in short order.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON REPORTS FIRST QUARTER RESULTS
Milwaukee, Wis., April 17, 2008 -- Harley-Davidson, Inc. (NYSE: HOG) today announced its results for the first quarter ended March 30, 2008.  Revenue for the quarter was $1.31 billion compared to $1.18 billion in the year-ago quarter, a 10.8 percent increase.  Net income for the quarter was $187.6 million compared to $192.3 million, a decrease of 2.5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2007.  First quarter diluted earnings per share (EPS) were $0.79, a 6.8 percent increase compared to last year’s $0.74.

PUERTA AND GILLIM IMPRESS IN RED BULL AMA U.S. ROOKIES CUP TEST AT BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK
The final day of preseason testing for the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup wrapped up at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Ala., on Tuesday. 15-year-old Tomas Puerta of Medellin, Colombia, turned in the fastest lap at the test and 13-year-old Hayden Gillim of Owensboro, Ky., won the exciting 15-lap mock race.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) told a Congressional committee in written comments on March 13 that motorized recreation is a "legitimate and popular" use of public land that needs more federal funding.
    The topic of the subcommittee hearing was "Impacts of Unmanaged Off-Road Vehicles on Federal Lands. AMA Vice President of Government Relations Ed Moreland told the federal lawmakers that recreation, like any other resource, must be managed.
    Moreland also made a case for more funding for federal agencies, such as the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, so that they can better manage motorized recreation. And he noted that the motorized recreation community has taken proactive steps, often in partnership with public land managers, to reinforce its land-use ethic through rider education and public awareness.
    Besides benefiting riders and the off-highway vehicle industry, motorized recreation pumps funds into local economies, Moreland added.

AMA Superbike Championship Round 2: Barber Motorsports Park
The AMA Superbike Series Championship picks back up on April 18-20 at Barber Motorsports Park, located just outside of Birmingham, Ala., for the second stop on the 2008 calendar.

Second Season Opener
After the high banks of Daytona, Barber Motorsports Park marks the first traditional road course on the schedule and the first of eight Superbike doubleheader weekends. In addition, the top teams take advantage of a six-week layoff following the Daytona opener for extensive testing and development at Barber. As a result, this week’s races at Barber Motorsports Park are viewed by many as something of a second season opener.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto a Lone Star in Texas
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto won his second-straight AMA Supercross Lites event, earning the victory at Texas Stadium in Dallas. His teammate Branden Jesseman finished eighth. In the Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM Championship premier class, Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Timmy Ferry finished fifth and Travis Preston nailed the holeshot before finishing 10th.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Nico Izzi Cards Top-10 Finish in Dallas Supercross Lites

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing’s Nico Izzi returned to AMA Supercross Lites at Dallas’ Texas Stadium this weekend after skipping the independent Toronto, Ontario, race last week. The young rookie recently celebrated his first AMA Supercross Lites podium in Indianapolis and was hoping to reproduce the experience.  This past Saturday night’s result was somewhat bittersweet, however. Izzi started the night with an impressive second-place finish in his heat race, however, a bout with food poisoning slowed the young rider in the 15-lap main event.  In spite of this, Izzi put his head down and still brought home a seventh-place finish in the main.

Mladin Dominates Test Session at Infineon Raceway

Suzuki’s Mat Mladin continued to dominate on Wednesday at Infineon Raceway as riders completed a Yamaha-sponsored AMA Superbike Test Session.

Mladin recorded the top time on Wednesday over the 12-turn, 2.22-mile road course at 1 minute, 34.90 seconds. His best time of the test came on Tuesday (1:34.76). Both times were better than the actual track record, which is owned by teammate Ben Spies (1:34.991, set in 2007).
