In celebration of the rich heritage of the Kawasaki/Monster Energy
Pro Motocross National Presented by Centra Bank, this weekend High
Point Raceway will host the first of three Motocross Legends Tour
events scheduled for this summer’s AMA Toyota Motocross Championship
presented by FMF. During opening ceremonies this Sunday, legends
including Roger DeCoster, Jeff Stanton, Broc Glover and Denny Swartz
are scheduled to run a parade lap on vintage motorcycles. DeCoster,
the five-time World Motocross Champion and current team manager of the
Makita Suzuki factory team, will ride alongside his star rider,
15-time AMA National Champion Ricky Carmichael.
“This solidifies the Motocross Legends Tour, because Roger
DeCoster is the legend of this sport,” says Parts Unlimited’s Rob
Buydos, who is organizing the event. “We’re gathering our urns
around the two-stroke. So get a spot at the fence to take in the
succulent smell of the sweet nectar of pre-mix.”
Fittingly, DeCoster will take his lap on a two-stroke, piloting a
Makita Suzuki replica RM-250, fitted with a number-one plate. He and
other riders including Stanton, Glover, Swartz, Steve Lamson, Mike
Fisher, David Hand and Tom Carson will put in a lap leading up to the
first moto of the day, Sunday at 1 p.m.
Parts Unlimited will also host a vintage bike show at High Point on
Saturday evening. Everyone and anyone is encouraged to bring out their
vintage bikes, including classes for minis, proper vintage, evolution
and modern. “There are awards for the top bikes, and entering opens
you up for the possibility of having your steed used in opening
ceremonies by one of the legends, if you approve,” says Buydos.
Motocross Legends Tour events are also scheduled for the Monster
Energy/Kawasaki National at Red Bud in Buchanan, Michigan on July 1,
and at the Monster Energy/Kawasaki National at Steel City in Delmont,
PA on August 21.
The 31st Annual Kawasaki/Monster Energy National Motocross at High
Point Raceway, presented by Centra Bank, runs Friday May 25th through
