TWO FIRST-TIME FINALISTS FACE OFF IN THE NITRO
TOP FUEL FINALS AT AHDRA EVENT IN NORWALK
Tonglet Continues Destroyer Domination
NORWALK, Ohio (June 12, 2007) – L.E. Tonglet
has earned the No. 1 qualifier award in the Destroyer category at each
of the first six Screamin' Eagle championship AHDRA events so far this
season.
He also owns the winner's trophy from five of
those events, including one from Sunday's Roeder Harley-Davidson Buckeye
Nationals at Norwalk Raceway. The New Orleans native beat Wanda Poff in
the final for his fifth victory of the season.
Tonglet rode his New Orleans H-D/Horne Concrete
Harley-Davidson to a 9.218-second pass at 141.52 for the win. Poff
turned in a 9.402 at 138.84 in her first final round appearance of the
season.
"My dad has tuned the setup perfectly,"
Tonglet said. "It's awesome and I can hardly explain how much fun
we're having right now. I just want to keep qualifying well and see if
we can earn a few more wins before the season is over."
Tonglet earned his sixth No. 1 qualifier with a
9.259 pass while Poff was second in qualifying with a 9.336.
Nitro Top Fuel points leader Doug Vancil lost to
Comunal in the semifinals.
Dean Comunal and Jay Turner battled for the Nitro
Top Fuel title – a first for each of them this season. Comunal came
out on top after recording a 6.473 run at 211.63, beating Turner's 9.220
at 93.39 on his Mancuso Harley-Davidson entry. It's the first time
Turner – a three-time winner in '06 – has been in the final round
since last year's fall Rockingham, N.C.
Tommy Grimes, coming off his exhibition win at an
NHRA event last weekend, was the No. 1 qualifier in the Nitro category
with a 6.458 run on his Ray Price Harley-Davidson. Turner was sixth
(6.480) while Comunal was eighth (6.624).
Kevin Winters collected the Screamin' Eagle
Performance (SEP) victory by beating Brad Croneberger in the final.
Winters earned his first win of the season with an 11.558. Croneberger
turned in an 11.629 in his first final round appearance of the year.
Josh Perry was the No. 1 qualifier with an 11.504.
Donnie Huffman took the win in the ET category.
Huffman's 11.528 covered Curtis Talbott's 11.387.
