HINES RIDES SCREAMIN' EAGLE HARLEY-DAVIDSON V-ROD
INTO TEXAS FINAL ROUND
Hines Makes Third and Final Countdown Group
ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 24, 2007) – Andrew Hines
earned his 21st career final round appearance and a spot in the NHRA
POWERade Countdown to the Championship Sunday at the Texas Motorplex.
The 24-year-old three-time NHRA Pro Stock
Motorcycle champion clinched a position in the final round of the
Countdown points system. The top four riders in the category will have
two events, the Oct. 28 ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas
and the Nov. 4 Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona,
Calif., to compete for the 2007 championship.
Sunday, however, Hines was battling for another
victory. Hines came up just short of adding to the four victories he has
already posted this season.
Hines posted round victories over Tom Bradford
and the Sportsman Channel Buell team, Angelle Sampey and the U.S. Army
Suzuki team and Matt Smith and the Torco Racing Fuels Buell before
losing to Peggy Llewellyn in the final round of the O'Reilly NHRA Fall
Nationals.
Llewellyn recorded a 7.020-second pass at 190 mph
on her Rush Racing Products Buell to beat Hines' 7.007 at 191.16 on his
V-Rod. The race was won on the starting line as Llewellyn left with a
.010 reaction time to cover Hines' ..045.
"It's unfortunate that we didn't come away
with the win but it's really important that we clinched one of the four
positions for the Countdown," Hines said. "Now we have four
weeks off to get back to the shop and do some development work on the
V-Rods and see if we can get an edge going into the final two races of
the season."
Screamin' Eagle teammate Eddie Krawiec beat
Antron Brown and the U.S. Army team in the first round before losing to
Chip Ellis and the Drag Specialties S&S Buell in the second round.
Krawiec is currently in eighth place in the Pro
Stock Motorcycle standings – and out of the Countdown.
"It was great winning the first round but it
seems like we always race one of the top competitors in the second
round," Krawiec said. "Chip was the quickest of the session in
the second round and he got by me. We're making strides and even though
we didn't make the third round of the Countdown I think we have a good
goal ahead of us of just trying to jump into fifth place."
Hines qualified in the No. 2 position. It was the
10th time this season Hines has qualified in the top three. Krawiec
qualified in the No. 8 position. It's the sixth time he's qualified in
the top half of the field.
"We're thrilled that Andrew earned another
trip to the finals and clinched a position in the third round of the
Countdown," Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso said.
"The team has worked so hard to get into the Countdown and we're
proud of the Vance & Hines crew at the track as well as all of the
people who work on this program back at the shop."
Neither Hines nor Krawiec had raced on the
all-concrete quarter-mile track at the Texas Motorplex prior to this
weekend. The last time the two-wheel category had been to the Motorplex
was in 2000.
"It was nice to be at the Motorplex after
all these years and I think the fans were happy too," Krawiec said.
"The crowd was such an enthusiastic supporter of the Pro Stock
Motorcycle category and I can't believe how many autographs we signed
this weekend. It was a great welcome back to the Texas Motorplex."
The next NHRA POWERade drag racing series event
featuring the Pro Stock Motorcycle category is the Oct. 25-28 ACDelco
NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las
Vegas.
