SAN DIEGO HARLEY-DAVIDSON AND HARLEY-DAVIDSON
MOTOR COMPANY RECOGNIZE AFRICAN AMERICANSŐ CONTRIBUTION TO MOTORCYCLING
Special performances by hip hop legend DMC; comedians Daman Wayans Jr.
and Esau McGraw; Bill MaGee Blues Band and 145th Blues Band
San Diego, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2008) - In honor of the
rich and often unrecognized contributions of African Americans to
motorcycling history, San Diego Harley-Davidson is hosting a
celebrity-filled event during Black History Month. The daylong celebration
will take place on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 from 11am - 4pm at San Diego
Harley-Davidson located on 5600 Kearny Mesa Rd. in San Diego.
San Diego Harley-Davidson's Black History Month
event is expected to draw motorcycle enthusiasts, fans and participants
from the San Diego area in addition to motorcycle club members from all
across the country. To bring even more excitement to the festivities
surrounding the event, San Diego Harley-Davidson is hosting a free concert
featuring hip hop legend DMC (Run DMC), the Bill MaGee Blues Band, and
145th Blues Band. Additionally, a special comedy hour will be part of the
festivities featuring special guest comedians Damon Wayans, Jr. and Esau
McGraw.
Additional activities will take place at the event
including San Diego Harley-Davidson's tribute to legendary bike builder,
Benny Hardy, for his contributions to motorcycle history.
"We are stoked to honor Hardy's contributions
to the Captain America and Billy Bikes. Those bikes were stars of the 1969
Easy Rider movie and Benny Hardy's star will now have a chance to shine
too," said Myke "NY Myke" Shelby, Owner of San Diego
Harley-Davidson.
"Harley-Davidson honors and appreciates the
long history of African Americans riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. We
are honored to participate and support our dealers' efforts to celebrate
the commitment and passion of the African American motorcycle
community," said Lynn Bonner, Director of Market Outreach,
Harley-Davidson Motor Company.
The San Diego Event is one of many aimed at
recognizing the diversity of riders sharing the Harley-Davidson
experience. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and Harley-Davidson Dealerships
around the country are continuing to show support of the African American
community beyond Black History Month by supporting a variety of motorcycle
and fundraising events such as National Roundup, Black Bikers in the Park
(Daytona Bike Week), Atlantic Beach Bike Week, West Coast Bikers Roundup,
Big Tigger's Ride for Life and Divas for a Cure.
