PICKERINGTON, OHIO--AMA Sports, the amateur and pro-am racing
department of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), announced
today that The Service Pavilion, one of the country's leading
retailers of Arai helmets, has signed on as the sponsor of the first
heat of the headline class at the AMA Sports Magic Mile Shootout,
promoted and organized by the Du Quoin State Fair.
"The AMA Sports Magic Mile Shootout is the type of amateur event
that this sport needs: top competition and a big payout at one of the
most famous mile dirt tracks in the world!" exclaimed Robert
Miller, owner of The Service Pavilion (
www.theservicepavilion.com).
"It is the first of hopefully many more specialized and exciting
events to come from the AMA Sports staff. We're proud to be a part of
this exciting night of dirt-track racing."
Held in conjunction with opening night of the Du Quoin State Fair in
southwest Illinois, the AMA Sports Magic Mile Shootout features a
$10,000 winner-take-all, 15-lap dirt-track 450cc main event on
Saturday, August 23, 2008. There also will be a Vintage Pre 1982 Twins
race, paying $2,500 to win. Both classes are open to non-GNC and
non-Expert licensed riders with eligible equipment.
In addition to the $10,000 main event and vintage program, the night
will feature a 450cc Last Man Out Race, sponsored by Gatewood
Engineering and Race Support (
www.gearswebsite.com).
The five-lap event will pay $500 to the winner and feature five riders
selected from among the 450cc class heat winners. In a last-man-out
race, the last rider on each lap pulls off and the remaining riders
line up for a subsequent lap. The process continues until there's one
rider remaining.
The current entry lists for both classes are included below. Entries
are still open for both classes. Eligible riders are encouraged to
visit the AMA Sports section of
www.AmericanMotorcylist.com
to sign up now for one of the richest paydays ever in amateur
dirt-track racing.
