BEMISDERFER
WINS ASRA PRO THUNDERBIKE AT SUMMIT POINT
Buell
Riders Win Eight CCS Sprint Races
SUMMIT
POINT, W.V. (September 7, 2008) – Harley-Davidson/Buell of Frederick
rider Bryan Bemisderfer rode a Buell XB12R to win the ASRA Pro Thunderbike
National at the Summer’s End Cyclefest at Summit Point Motorsports Park.
Deeley H-D/Buell Canada/Ruthless Racing rider David Estok finished second.
BMW rider Nate Kern, who finished third, clinched the 2008 ASRA Pro
Thunderbike championship with one race remaining on the schedule. Kern is
the first rider to win the Pro Thunderbike title on a brand other than
Buell.
It
was the first Pro Thunderbike win since 2006 for Bemisderfer, who was the
Pro Thunderbike champion in 2004.
“We
turned our focus away from Thunderbike last season, and it’s taken a
little while to get back up to speed in this series,” said Bemisderfer.
“We’ve also had a real string of bad luck, but the H-D/Buell of
Frederick team never gave up and has put a lot of time and resources into
this effort, so it’s really great to finally have it pay off with a
win.”
Heavy
rains from tropical storm Hanna on Saturday caused ASRA to compress the
entire weekend racing schedule on Sunday, and riders were gridded for the
start of the eight-lap Pro Thunderbike national on the basis of season
points. Deeley H-D/Buell Canada/Ruthless Racing rider David Estok, the
defending Pro Thunderbike champion, and Kern, the series points leader,
started on the front row and jumped off to an early lead with Estok on the
point. Bemisderfer caught and passed first Kern and then Estok on lap
four, and then pulled away to take the win.
“At
the last minute I decided we should race our long-stroke bike, so the team
switched the set-up to that motorcycle,” said Bemisderfer. “I got
behind a few other bikes in the first few turns and Kern and Estok took
off on a clear track, but I put my head down and caught them on lap two.
Once I got by I thought they would be right behind me, but I was faster
and able to pull away.”
On
the final lap, Bemisderfer set a new Summit Point Thunderbike lap record
of 1:16.507. Sound Waves/Hal’s Speed Shop team rider Joe Rozynski was
fourth on a Buell XB12R, followed by Ray Price Harley-Davidson/Buell rider
Carl Reid, also on a Buell.
After
seven of eight events on the 2008 ASRA Thunderbike schedule, Kern has
clinched the title with 223 points. Estok is second with 162 points, Bison
Racing/Eagle H-D/Buell rider Walt Sipp is third with 115 points, and
Hal’s H-D/Buell/Hal’s Speed Shop rider Dan Bilansky is fourth with 110
points.
The
final stop on the ASRA Pro Thunderbike schedule is the 25th
Annual Race of Champions, Oct. 16-19, at Daytona International Speedway in
Daytona Beach, Fla.
