Infineon Raceway to Host AMA Supermoto National Championships

Infineon Raceway will step in as a last-minute replacement to host the upcoming AMA Supermoto National Championship Series season finale, Nov. 14-16.

The season finale was originally scheduled for Austin, Texas, but had to be moved because of complications. The weekend event will now take place at the Infineon Raceway Kart Center, which boasts a state-of-the-art track.

Infineon Raceway is no stranger to two-wheel racing, having hosted AMA road racing events on its traditional 12-turn road course since 1977. The facility has also hosted Supermoto USA events during its AMA weekend since 2006.  This will mark its first time hosting the AMA Supermoto National Championships.

Australia's Troy Herfoss takes an eight-point lead into the season finale in the Supermoto Premier class over Ohio's Mark Burkhart (95-87). Michigan's Chris Fillmore is third with 78 points. Petaluma resident Tyler O'Hara sits ninth entering the final weekend.

Championships will also be decided in the Supermoto Lites class and the Supermoto Unlimited class.

Two Bay Area riders are in the top five in Supermoto Lites - Pacifica's Dave Casey is third (74) with Fairfield's Casey Yarrow fifth (58). Anaheim's Brandon Currie tops the leaderboard in the Lites division. San Clemente's Darryl Atkins is in first place in the Supermoto Unlimited class entering the weekend -he has won the last two events.

Action gets under way on Friday with practice, heat races and main events in the Amateur Divisions beginning at 9:30 a.m. The scene shifts to the AMA Supermoto championship classes on Saturday and Sunday. Practice begins at 9:45 a.m. each day, with heat races beginning at 12:40 p.m. each day and main events set to take the green flag at 3 p.m. each day. A rider autograph session will be held on both Saturday and Sunday at 2:25 p.m.

Cost is $10 on Friday, $10 on Saturday and $15 on Sunday. A weekend pass is available for $30 and parking is FREE.
