After two-and-a-half months
of voting and campaigning, the 2009 Miss Arenacross search has
finally drawn to a close. Several hundred candidates have been
narrowed down to 20-year old Lindsey Scheltema of Byron Center,
Mich.
While the Des Moines race
is a stand-alone race and not part of the 2009 AMA Arenacross
Series, Scheltema will take part in the promotional and media
opportunities throughout this coming weekend in Des Moines.

"We are honored
and excited to crown Lindsey as the new Miss Arenacross,"
said Jayme Dalsing, director of arenacross, Feld Motor Sports.
"She is a true fan that loves the sport and is actively
involved in motocross. She will have the opportunity to learn a
lot from Ashley Phillips, Miss Arenacross for the past three
seasons."
Currently enrolled in
college, Scheltema is near the halfway point in her studies for a
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Communication.
"This is a once in a
lifetime opportunity," exclaimed Scheltema. "I am so
excited to be a role model for the younger fans! I have wanted to
get involved in this aspect of the sport for a long time."
Scheltema is also an active
motocross racer, earning a career-best finish of eighth at the Air
Nautiques Amateur Motocross National Championship from Loretta
Lynne's in 2005 and participating in the 2006 AMA/WMA Women's
Motocross National Championship. She will make her full-time
professional debut next summer on the WMA tour.
"I believe that being
a real motocross racer provided an advantage for me over the other
contestants. I feel as though I am a true representation of the
fans, and I can't wait to represent the sport in a positive
manner. By being myself, the fans will see I am a positive person
and my passion will shine through. I really want to be a part of
these races and make a difference!"
Former Miss Arenacross
Ashley Phillips served as the series ambassador for the 2005-06,
2006-07, and 2007-08 seasons. During her time, she added beauty
and intellect to arenacross and is eager to share her wealth of
knowledge with Lindsey as she makes the transition into announcing
for Monster Energy® Supercross with co-announcer Erv Braun.
"The last three years
as Miss Arenacross have been an incredible experience,"
explained Phillips. "I have made friends and memories to last
a lifetime and I look forward to welcoming Lindsay as Miss
Arenacross 2009 and can't wait for her to become part of the
Arenacross family. She has so much to look forward to and enjoy!
Arenacross will always have a special place in my heart, thanks to
everyone for all your support and memories as Miss Arenacross."
Miss Arenacross will travel
to the AMA Arenacross Series tour stops across the country,
kicking off in Grand Rapids, Mich. on January 2-4, and will serve
as a spokesmodel for the series.
