KENNY COOLBETH STILL
RACING TO THE TOP
Three-Time Grand National Champion Never
Stops Learning, or Winning
MILWAUKEE (May 20, 2009) - Kenny Coolbeth is a third-generation motorcycle racer who entered his first competition when he was five years old and has been winning ever since. A member of the Screamin' Eagle® Harley-Davidson® factory flat track team since 2006, Coolbeth has won three consecutive AMA Pro Grand National Twins championships and reached the pinnacle of the sport.
The 32-year-old racer from Warren, Conn., turned pro in 1993, was named the AMA Flat Track Rookie of the Year in 1994, and began a steady climb up the ranks in Grand National competition. He won his first Grand National race in 2002 and through the 2008 season has won 21 Grand National events.
"Racing a motorcycle is simply what I love to do," said Coolbeth. "Having the opportunity to race for the Harley-Davidson factory has put me in a position to race for the championship, with top-notch equipment and an experienced team behind me. We arrive at every race expecting to win."
Coolbeth once worked construction jobs between races, but now races full-time for a living, training between events on both flat-track and motocross motorcycles. During the long New England winters, ice racing on local ponds keeps his skills sharp.
Coolbeth expects that repeating as Grand National champion - for the fourth consecutive season - will be a challenge.
"It sounds cliche but we just worry about one race at a time and let the championship come to us," said Coolbeth. "At every race I try to better my performance from the previous year, even if we won the race last year. It will help to get off to a good start at the season opener this weekend on the Springfield Mile. I still feel that I've got a lot to learn about racing and winning on the big tracks."
